COMTO CT Leadership Luncheon featured Keynote Speaker, Connecticut Department of Transportation's Commissioner Garrett Eucalitto, special guest April Rai, COMTO National CEO/President and Anna M. Barry Former CTDOT Deputy Commissioner. Transportation leaders, members, and businesses learned the vision of the new Commissioner of CTDOT for transportation in CT. Safety and sustainability are objectives and priorities for transportation improvements, and with unprecedented funding through the IIJA brings along challenges to project implementation. With staffing shortages in public/private sectors there are renewed efforts for recruitment and retention of a sustainable workforce. COMTO National's Leader, April Rai, provided a relevant and substantive discussion on how transportation agency partnership with COMTO can foster a more Diverse, Equitable and Inclusive workforce, and more equity in contracting for MWDBE’s.

COMTOWeek22 was a success! It was great networking with local chapter members and industry colleagues, while accomplishing the goal of bringing together diverse transportation industry professionals across modes and disciplines to the COMTO family.

Celebrating Women who Move the Nation Awards Breakfast

The Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) hosted its 11th Annual Celebrating Women Who Move the Nation Awards Breakfast on March 16, 2022, in Washington, DC. CT Chapter’s, treasurer Tamara Smith was in attendance to celebrate with other transportation officials. Connecticut COMTO congratulates the 2022 honorees - 16 phenomenal women who are leading and advancing America's transportation infrastructure.

CTDOT Five Year Capital Plan and Small Business Contracting

The webinar, held on June 22, 2021, featured a discussion of the Connecticut Department of Transportation's $9.7 Billion Capital Project Plans’ strategic investments for the upkeep and State's multimodal transportation system. Participants also learned about the DBE/ SBE/MBE certification processes to prepare small businesses for future contracting opportunities. Featured speakers included Debra Goss, CT Department of Transportation Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Liaison Officer (DBELO), and Mark Rolfe, CT Department of Transportation Deputy Commissioner.



 

UCONN BRIDGE

Storrs Mansfield

BRIDGE is a five-week summer program held at the UCONN Storrs campus designed to prepare students who are underrepresented in engineering fields for the rigor of engineering curriculum at UConn, introduce leadership opportunities and careers in engineering, and to familiarize students with the college experience. In July 2021, CTDOT was invited as an industry leader to present a day long program to current student highlighting transportation related projects and activities. COMTO CT sponsored lunch for the event and President, Sharon Okoye, discussed the benefits of joining COMTO CT, including scholarship opportunities.
